Health Support

Medical Care

Each summer the project organizes dispensary days. A doctor and nurse administer medical care and medication within the village. This allows people to receive medical care without having to walk long distances or pay for transportation. Often transportation costs are the barrier to medical care.

If patients are referred to the hospital for further treatment or tests, we accompany them to the hospital to ensure they receive appropriate care. All expenses for transportation and medical care are provided. If they are referred beyond the local hospital, expenses are also paid. The support is continued when patients require ongoing medical care.

Eye Examination

An eye doctor provides vision screenings at each of the medical clinics as well as at Belgrove Primary School.  The doctor fits villagers for glasses provided by Lions 49A/B Alaska and makes referrals for those needing further treatment.
